Life Legacy


"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my Soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord, my soul to take. On Monday, March 16, 2009, God called our loved one home. Mrs. Muriel Jenkins was born on March 23, 1925 to the union of the late Mr. Weldon and Lucy Cooper in East St. Louis, IL. She was the youngest of four daughters and one son. Her sisters Tiny Cooper and Thelma McNair preceded her in death. Her brother Waldon Cooper preceded her in death at an early age. Muriel lived in East St. Louis all her life. She received public education in the East St. Louis School District # 189. She worked in housekeeping at the Holiday Inn in Collinsville, IL for many years before she retired. Mrs. Jenkins was united in holy matrimony to the late Robert Lee Jenkins, Sr. To this union four sons were born. Robert and Richard Jenkins preceded her in death. Muriel confessed Christ at an early age. She attended St. Mark Church of God in Christ where she grew closer to the Lord. She later joined Kingshighway Christian Church where she was a dedicated member of the usher board. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Lawrence (Carol) Jenkins of St. Louis, MO, Stephon Jenkins (Denise) of St. Louis, MO. One sister: Ella Mae Haynes of Los Angeles, CA; two daughter-in-laws, Gail Jenkins of East St. Louis, IL, Francine Jenkins of East St. Louis, IL; one cousin, Blondell Morgan of East St. Louis, IL; twelve grandsons, Leemand Jenkins, Raymond Jenkins, Antoine Jenkins, Johnny Jenkins, Luke Jenkins, Antwon (Ladonna) Jenkins, Richard (Ayanna) Jenkins, Mitree Jenkins, Demonte Jenkins, all of East St. Louis, IL, Rahsetnu Jenkins of St. Louis, MO, Jacob Jenkins of Decatur, IL, Matthew Jenkins of Cedar Rapids, IA; six granddaughters, Tisha (George) Floore of Cahokia, IL, Muriel Jenkins of East St. Louis, IL, Christy (Andre) Blissett of Flaggstaff, Arizona, Sukeena McKenzie of Belleville, IL, Erin Jenkins of Florrisant, MO, Kayla Jenkins of St. Louis, MO; three nieces, Charslesetta (Lawrence) Goolsby of Chicago, IL, Caroline ??Poochie? (Hillard) Jones of Chicago, IL, Carmen (Larry) Ballentine of Chicago, IL; two nephews; Charles McNair(Tammy) of East St. Louis, IL, Cameron McNair of Chicago, IL, 30 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. "
